What
is TOPSoccer?
TOPSoccer
(The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community based training
and team placement program for young athletes with special needs.
TOPSoccer provides meaningful learning, development, and physical
participation opportunities to these young athletes through the
game of soccer. The emphasis of this program is on development,
training, and meaningful participation rather than on competition.
Our goal is to enable the young athletes with disabilities to develop
their physical fitness, technical skills, courage, and self-esteem,
through the joy and excitement of playing soccer.

Greater Nebraska TOPSoccer
TOPSoccer
was started in Kearney, Nebraska when a group of individuals saw
the need to complete the motto of the US Youth Soccer Association,
which is "The Game for All Kids." TOPSoccer got its beginning
in the Spring of 1998 with 9 players and, as of Fall 2002, we have
35 players. Besides players from Kearney, our players travel from
Elm Creek, Holdrege, Minden, Pleasanton, and Riverdale. We meet
two times a week with our Spring season beginning around the first
part of May and our Fall season beginning after Labor Day weekend.
We normally have 9-10 sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evening that
last approximately 60 - 90 minutes.

Our
program is successful because of the dedication of the volunteers
and the parents' participation. Each special needs player receives
one-on-one attention at all times from a middle school, high school,
college age volunteer. Each skill or game is adapted to each child's
special need and every child participates at the level that they are
able. The admiration and friendships between the players and coaches
will leave both with valuable and lasting memories.
